Introduction to the MCAA History

"A dream was realized in western Johnston County back in May of 2006. A dream that now nurtures hundreds more dreams. Dreams of maybe one day becoming a big league ball player or playing for the US National Softball team, or maybe just of making the middle school soccer team. Those dreams are being nurtured through the hard work of the McGee’s Crossroads community. Enter the McGee’s Crossroads Athletic Association, otherwise known as the MCAA."

Press Release June 2006

"Creation of MCAA announced"

It was only a matter of time, and effort. With the incredible growth and population explosion being experienced in Western Johnston County, the clamor for a recreation program at McGee’s Crossroads has finally been answered.

The MCAA (McGee’s Crossroads Athletic Association) was incorporated this past May and although non-profit status is still pending IRS approval, the organization is seeking a facilities use agreement with the Middle and Elementary schools for some fall activities. With the long term goal of obtaining approximately 20 acres, the vision is for the MCAA to provide administration of youth and adult recreational activities at the school(s) until land can be purchased and developed into a multi-cultural recreation center with active and passive programs for adults and children.

In the meantime, the abbreviated fall schedule will include youth baseball, softball and soccer. Traditional winter activities like basketball and wrestling are being developed along with some non-traditional sports like table tennis and volleyball. The number of divisions and teams in each fall sport will be completely dependent on the interest level and the number of registrations. Also, keep in mind that fall sports typically require some local travel.

Registration dates for fall soccer, baseball and softball will be held by the end of July and the first annual Association meeting will be held in the McGee’s Middle School gym on June 20 at 7PM. Any one interested in helping to develop the program, to sponsor or to help raise funds are welcome. The agenda will include membership, committees, by-laws and rules. If you cannot attend but are interested in helping, you can contact Ed Perfetto with questions or info.
